Overview

Vixos Beyond is a flight termination system built for the regulatory frameworks that govern specific-category UAS operations. The system is compliant with the containment requirements of SORA 2.0 step #9 and SORA 2.5 step #8 across SAIL I–VI, with SORA 2.5 OSO #5 for SAIL I–IV, and with EASA's Special Condition Light-UAS for SAIL I–IV, including MoC 2510 for SAIL III–IV and MoC 2511 for aircraft under 3 m at SAIL I–II, once the operator-side test programme is completed. Safety analysis follows EUROCAE ED-280 and SAE ARP4761.

The available documentation from Vixos is as follows

SAIL III + IV

For SAIL III and IV, two product-level safety documents are available:

  1. Design and Installation Appraisal, which addresses containment criterion #1 of SORA Annex E, and

  2. Functional safety assessment conducted to ARP4761, which addresses OSO #5 at low and medium robustness.

Both treat the two sides of the safety problem as equally important — the system must terminate when commanded, and it must not terminate when it isn't. The design reflects this: an inert design safe state in which virtually any malfunction leaves the autopilot signal path untouched rather than triggering an unintended termination. The electronics is designed with minimum single-point-of-failure and with no interference on the signal paths.

The system has redundant independently-agreeing processors for all safety-critical actions, authenticated and CRC-checked termination messages, and firmware written in modern C++ to internal standards derived from the C++ Core Guidelines and AUTOSAR C++14, enforced by static analysis on every change.

Work is ongoing on an EASA Design Verification Report for SAIL IV operations, and on DO-160 environmental qualification.

Because requirements differ by country and operation, the documentation is available in tiers: summaries in the user manual, abridged versions for customers under NDA, and unabridged versions for national aviation authorities under NDA. Operators are encouraged to engage their NAA early to confirm exactly what evidence is required.
